Umbilical Hernia

An umbilical hernia is an abnormal bulge that can be seen or felt at the umbilicus (belly button). An umbilical hernia is not dangerous in itself, but there is a risk that it will get trapped (incarcerated). Your hernia can be repaired either as an open or laparoscopic approach. The repair can be done by using sutures only or adding a piece of mesh.
